After almost a month of not being able to bond with each other, my best friend and I spent the whole day yesterday walking around downtown trying to find the best place to buy second hand garments also known as “ukay-ukay”.
We felt that yesterday was the best time to shop around for second hand garments because of the upcoming Kadayawan 2009 celebration. We started our day by going to San Pedro Church to attend a mass. It’s been quite awhile since the last time I attended a mass so yesterday was a perfect time for me to thank God for everything he had done to me. The mass had already started when we got to the church so we had no choice but to stand throughout the mass.
We head straight to NCCC mall after the mass to do some shopping for the store of my best friend’s mother. It was unusual because there weren’t too many people in the grocery yesterday. It did not take us too long to pay at the counter. After shopping, my best friend and I went back to San Pedro to do some “ukay-ukay” shopping.
One good thing about buying second hand garments is that are they cheap yet still in good condition. However, you need to be patient because you need to do some digging into a pile of dusty clothes to find the best ones.
We jumped one from booth to another before we decided to check out Monterverde and Agdao, another place where you can see a lot of second hand garments being sold in every corner of the street. We were expecting for a cheaper price there only to find out that it was twice as high as the price in San Pedro.
We went back to San Pedro to try our luck again. After seven long hours of digging into a pile of dusty clothes, I managed to get hold of two shorts and two t-shirts. My best friend was lucky to get a bag for only 20 bucks and sleep wear for her mother. I know it’s not that many but that’s the best we can get.
We were exhausted when we got home. Our legs were throbbing because of long hours of walking and standing even so we still had fun and we can’t wait to do it again.
